• Bischofshof Hefe-Weissbier Dunkel: Orange attack. Almond tones. Clean (almost empty) mid, though this isn't unpleasant, with lovely nutty finish. It's like a Hefeweizen that tastes good!
  • Bischofshof Pilsner: Not offensive, but not very good either. A mix of insipid attack coupled with an unpleasant after taste.
  • Bischofshof Hefe-Weissbier Hell: "Hell" in German apparently means "not-memorable", for that is what this beer was. Inoffensive, but not spectacular.
  • Bischofshof Kristall Weizen: Filtered wheat bear. Inoffensive, but tastes like just about every other sort of hefe-weissen.
  • Bischofshof Urhell: Unpleasant metallic after taste. For that matter, it has somewhat of an unpleasant metallic fore taste, as well.
  • St. Bernardus Tripel: Not very interesting, but not offensive. Lead in is pleasant enough, but then the finish is uninteresting. I suppose you could call it "clean" if you wanted to be generous.
  • Marke Weltenburger Hefe-Weissbier Dunkel: Fairly uninspiring, but inoffensive. For a dunkel, surprisingly tasteless.
  • Hopf Dunkle Weisse Hefe Weizen: Caramel molasses scent. Lovely toasty-nutty malt taste. Some citrus notes. Slightly bitter finish, but really very pleasant.
  • Paulaner Munchen Hefe-Weizen Natural Wheat: Slightly yeasty nose. Tart, clean, with malt finish. Quite nice.
  • Rogue Double Dead Guy Ale: Slightly hoppy, very sweet, honey taste. A good beer, but not all that I had been led to believe.
  • Edelweiss Weissbier: This is a beer that I fell in love with in the 2002 time frame, but then the importer stopped bringing it to the US. I've started seeing it again recently. Yeasty scent, slight Gewürztraminer scent. Lively bright taste, hints of berry. Malty finish. Lingering metallic malt notes. Solid.
  • Marke Weltenburger Hefe-Weissbier Dunkel: First try: Fairly uninspiring, but inoffensive. For a dunkel, surprisingly tasteless. second try: I'm not sure what the problem was last time, but this time, the beer is lovely. There's a cherry smell that's on the edge of being something unpleasant. Earth tones. Metallic mid. After taste is a bit off tasting.
  • Hopf Helle Weisse Hefe Weizen: One of the best light hefe weizens that I've had. Orange blossom and banana notes. Lovely malt finish.
  • La Fin Du Monde Triple Golden Ale on Lees: Tart vaguely pineapple scent. Malt, fruit mid taste. Tart fore-taste. Reminiscent of pineapple. Creamy. Lovely.
  • Trois Pistoles: Malt, orange, lovely toasty taste.
  • 2013 Cuvee Van De Keizer Blauw (Blue). Nose: Malt, apricot, banana, molasses. Taste: Toasted malt attack. Mid taste: citrus, toasted almond, cinnamon, grass. Finish: tart citrus / coffee / raspberry / molasses / metallic. Notes: Really lovely. In fact, perhaps the best of this style that I've ever had, displacing Chimay Grande Reserve (Blue) for that spot. If you're a fan of Belgian Triple Ales, I recommend that you try this wonderful beer.
  • Rochefort Trappist 10: nose: honey, hops, yeast, berry. leading attack: tart, warm, orange, bitterness. mid: current, cream. finish: metallic, orange. notes: Enjoyable, but it didn't live up to the reviews that I had seen.
  • Gulden Draak 9000 quadruple: Nose: metallic, banana, rose, honey. Attack: bitter orange, tamarind, cream. Mid: metallic orange. Finish: woody, citrus, bitter. Notes: sort of geysered when I opened it. The aftertaste is a bitter metallic orange; not a wholly pleasant finish. >Rochefort Trappist 10 is wildly more enjoyable.

  • Taras Boulba Extra Hoppy Ale. nose: hops, orange. taste: hops, citrus. aftertaste: metallic, citrus. Notes: Not unpleasent, but I don't think that I'm going to make a habit of purchasing this beer.
  • Bitter XX Belgian Golden Ale. nose: clean hop, metallic undertones. Taste: grapefruit. afternaste: grapefruit. light. some metallic feel. notes: Lovely clean taste. Quite pleasant. Somewhat like a very pleasant IPA. Laura doesn't like this beer.
